Les Barricades Mystérieuses - video installation
Les Barricades Mystérieuses is the meeting-point between the musical play of Couperin, the narrative of Henry David Thoreau Walden or Life in Woods and the deconstruction of a film process.
Les Barricades Mystérieuses is an video installation of two projections on two screens placed back to back. This device makes impossible the viewing of both videos simultaneously and proposes to the viewer the apprehension of a narrative in two phases.
The film n°1, shot in Super 8, stages a male character in a cabin totally isolated from the rest of the world. Half of the construction of the cabin floats on the water, as the other half leans on the forest.
This film is the captation of the man’s experiments in this environment.
The film n°2 consists only of a text. It is the retranscription of the film n°1. Its screenplay.
The text appears little by litte, as beeing typed by somebody and described the content of every sequence of the film n°1, enlightening us on the experiments lived by the character.
The character, nicknamed Walden, is the vector of a universal questioning on our relationship to the world. Creating a parallel with the initiatory narrative of Henry David Thoreau, Walden or Life in Woods, the character tries to question our vision of life nowaday, our value system and our inscription inside and outside society.
