The Ghost Inside - video installation
Everything begins with a woman coming out of waters and wandering through a primitive territory. Her progress and discovery of this wild place evolve thanks to the attention of the viewer.
Commissioned by the ICM (the Institut of Brain and Spinal cord in Paris), Emmanuelle Antille conceived this video installation in association with the research scientist Michel Le Van Quyen’s team.
In this video, the viewer acts on the progress of a character thanks to a special helmet measuring his/her focussing. The bigger the attention of the viewer is, the more the video scrolls (and by consequence the moire the character progresses in her mysterious wandering). This is then the attention of the viewer that conditions the unveiling of the work.
The work itself - the wanderings of a woman of the periphery of a forest up to its heart - can be moreover read as a metaphor of the brain activity, reminding the functioning of its thought, meanders, steps back and loops.
This installation has been shown for the first time in Paris at FIAC 2014
